TCPalm reports that water bills will be going up in Saint Lucie County

Residential customers with both water and sewer will see an average monthly bill of $96.82 increase to $98.56, records show. Residential water customers bill will increase 76 cents, while residential sewer customers bill will increase 98 cents.

The higher rate is needed to offset the 2.4 percent increase the county received from Fort Pierce Utilities Authority for water the authority provides the county for North Hutchinson Island, county utility director Laurie Waldie said in an email.

While FPUA has been increasing rates for years the county was able to absorb those increases until now.

Since 2011, the county has been absorbing FPUA annual increases but the utility can’t afford to keep doing that, Waldie said.

There is some good news however for county residents.

Since 2011, the county has been absorbing FPUA annual increases but the utility can’t afford to keep doing that, Waldie said.

If approved, the new rates would be effective June 1 and will be reflective on customers July bills.
